India is now on the rise financially and that is going to be reflected in seeing more Indians travelling abroad and pursuing scuba diving as a hobby. In fact, Indian divers are already making headline news; it was recently reported that 10-year-old Parth Sanghvi from Mumbai, became the world’s youngest scuba diver! His achievement came after he dived 12 metres underwater near Grande Island in Goa last month. Parth broke the earlier world record held by Egypt’s Natasha Turner. If this news is anything to go by then the world can expect to see many more keen Indian divers in the future.
There are direct flights from Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata to the major international airports of Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. From these cities many Indonesian, Malaysian,Thailand and Burma dive destinations such as Phuket, Bali and Sabah and just a short flight away. Thailand and Burma
The diving in the Andaman Sea of Thailand and Burma is fabulous with its spectacular underwater topography, colourful coral and masses of tropical fish as well as larger fish action. You could take in the diving wonders of the Similan Islands with blacktip reef sharks and leopard sharks, or dive with turtles in the Surin Islands, or cruise the awesome dive sites of Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock where you may even encounter a majestic whale shark. Travel further north for intense pelagic action at the many excellent dive sites in the Burma archipelago. Here you have the opportunity to dive far from the average tourist’s beaten track with a vast array of fish including manta rays. With several great diving destinations to choose from such as Bali, Komodo, the Banda Islands, Raja Ampat and Sulawesi, you are spoilt for choice.
