Baani Explorer’s Palme d’Or Success!
The Baani Explorer has found itself in the unlikely position of being partly responsible for the Palme d’Or award which went to ‘Ocean Nights’ an underwater film which was partly produced on this Maldives liveaboard in 2006. The film features incredible footage of the activity on coral reefs after sunset and was filmed in a variety of locations: Indian Ocean, Andaman Sea, Banda Sea (Indonesia) and the Red Sea. Maldives 2007 – A Record Year For Tourists
Everyone has seen the classic images of the Maldives. The atoll chain is synonymous with fine white sandy beaches, azure lagoons and a quiet, romantic atmosphere. These days the two prinicpal visitors are honeymooners and of course, people like you....divers.   Recent figures from the Maldives Tourist Board reveal that the popularity of the country continues to rise with a record total of 675,889 tourists in 2007. This represents an increase of 12.3% on the previous year. Our new resorts in Fiji!
Following our latest extensive Fiji trip where we sought to find out all we can to make sure our site is up-to-date and full of the best advice for YOU, we have added three new resorts to our range. Paradise TaveuniTaveuni continues to attract divers from all over the world thanks to the legendary channel known as the Somosomo Strait that runs down its west coast. Day 4: 2 dives at Protea Banks An early morning rise for two dives on the Protea Banks, situated about 7.5 km offshore from the town of Shelly Beach on Kwazulu Natal’s South Coast. Our aim today is to dive with ragged-tooth Sharks and Zambezi (bull) sharks; and since we use acoustics, you will have up close encounters with these fantastic creatures. The Protea Banks offer a great chance to see many different sharks including hammerheads, tiger sharks, bronze whalers, dusky sharks, guitar sharks and more. In the evening we enjoy dinner at one of the local bars or restaurants. Overnight KZN South Coast. Day 5: 2 dives Protea Banks Two dives in the Protea Banks. Overnight KZN South Coast.  Day 6: Tiger Shark Diving Today you will spend the day at sea, diving with tiger sharks on the southern end of the Aliwal Shoal, Umkomaas. Our tiger shark dives will rate as one of the top 5 dives you will ever do! We launch from the Umkomaas River mouth and travel south to the southern ledges of the Aliwal Shoal. We then create a chum (scent) corridor to attract the sharks. Once the sharks arrive you will enter the water to observe the sharks in their natural environment. Day 7: Tiger Shark DivingToday you will spend another day at sea, diving with tiger sharks on the southern end of the Aliwal Shoal. Whale shark at Kingcruiser wreck!
Everyone knows that Thailand is a great place for seeing mighty whale sharks. However this is most common at dive sites like Richelieu Rock or around the world-famous Similan islands.   What a bonus it was for divers this week who were on a daytrip from Phuket diving at the site of the Kingruiser wreck to come face to face with a huge and curious whale shark!
